Cardiopulmonary
The Cardiopulmonary Department at Boundary Community Hospital is a multifaceted department with a focus on the care of patients with abnormalities of the heart, lungs and circulatory system.
Comprised of Registered Respiratory Care Practitioners who are licensed by the National Board of Respiratory Care and the state of Idaho and are certified in Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Under qualified medical direction, the department provides initial and ongoing patient assessment. We perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, which provide physicians with detailed studies of the heart and lungs for use as a basis for treatment. These services are provided to clients of all age ranges, regardless of socioeconomic, educational or cultural background.
Cardiology Services
Arterial-Brachial Index (ABI) Assess circulation in the legs and arms.
Electrocardiograms (EKG) A detailed recording of the electrical activity of the heart. The test records 12 different angles of the heart to detect abnormal rhythms, heart disease, and chronic cardiac abnormalities.
In Home 24-Hour Cardiac Holter Monitoring Patients wear a 24-hour holter monitor, which is used for detecting abnormal heart rhythms.
In Home Cardiac Event Monitoring Similar to the holter monitor, patients wear a smaller monitor for an extended period of time to detect abnormal heart rhythms.
Exercise Stress Testing Patients will be asked to walk on a treadmill to increase their heart rate and determine the presence of any underlying cardiac disease.
Pulmonary therapeutic and supportive services
Pulmonary Function Testing A detailed test, which measures the mechanics of breathing, and assists in the diagnosis of such pulmonary disorders such as asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and cancer.
Aerosolized Medication Administration Use in the prevention and treatment of reversible airflow obstruction. The most common usage is to treat or prevent bronchospasms.
Arterial Blood Gas Analysis of arterial and/or mixed venous blood which provides information concerning the pH, oxygenation, carbon dioxide status of the subject from whom the specimen was obtained.
Co-oximetry Analysis Measures the hemoglobin concentration and concentrations of various hemoglobin derivatives, such as carbon monoxide, which may be present in blood of the subject from whom the specimen was obtained.
Pulse Oximetry Simple non-invasive method of monitoring the percentage of blood which is saturated with oxygen.
Oxygen Administration This is a treatment that provides extra oxygen, which is a drug, to the tissues of the body through the lungs, and is provided as a supplement to normal respirations.
Airway clearance techniques Devices and treatments used to assist those who are otherwise unable to clear pulmonary secretions effectively.
